Gray's melodies could conjure images of a medieval troubadour, and her voice a 1920s jazz artist. It has been said that the music of Jessie Gray transports her listeners to times long ago. Her haunting, melancholic, melodies sound as if they are drifting through a phonograph.
New Jersey native, Jessie Gray, now calling Nashville home, is set to release the first single off her sophomore album this fall. The songs were recorded live to tape at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville. Her tin pan alley, song bird qualities capture a nostalgia harkening back to the 1920s. Her melancholic warbles liken her to artists like Molly Drake and Edith Piaf. Her love of overlaying the poetry of the natural world with the dream world is deeply felt.
"Over the last few years, Jessie Gray has distinguished herself as one of Ithaca’s most promising singer-songwriters. Her 2019 solo debut, “Through the Woods,” was one of Ithaca’s top releases of the year, spotlighting her ability to blend earthy, homespun lyrics with sparse instrumentation and haunting vocals to create intriguing narratives that draw in the listener. Blending folk, country, and blues influences, Gray’s recent material shows continued growth, with her winsome voice showing both strength and vulnerability over her propulsive acoustic guitar grooves."
